The Buddha outlines six benefits of realizing the fruit of stream-entry.

AN 6.97  Ānisaṁsa sutta - Benefit

“Chayime, bhikkhave, ānisaṁsā sotāpattiphalasacchikiriyāya. Katame cha?

“|Bhikkhus,::::| there are these six benefits in realizing the fruit of |stream-entry::first stage of awakening where one overcomes the fetters of 1.) personal existence view: view of being someone, belief that one is an embodied being, 2.) doubt or perplexity regarding suffering, its arising, its ending, and the way of practice leading to the end of suffering, and 3.) adherence to rules and observances as a means of liberation [sotāpatti]|. What six?

Saddhammaniyato hoti,
aparihānadhammo hoti,
pariyantakatassa dukkhaṁ hoti,
asādhāraṇena ñāṇena samannāgato hoti,
hetu cassa sudiṭṭho,
hetusamuppannā ca dhammā.

1.) One is certain of the true Dhamma;
2.) one is not subject to decline;
3.) one makes a definitive end to suffering;
4.) one is endowed with |extraordinary::lit. not with supporting [asādhāraṇa]| knowledge;
5.) and one has |clearly seen::properly understood, well-seen [sudiṭṭha]| cause,
6.) and causally originated |phenomena::characteristics, thoughts, mental states, mental qualities [dhammā]|.

Ime kho, bhikkhave, cha ānisaṁsā sotāpattiphalasacchikiriyāyā”ti.

These|, bhikkhus,::::| are the six benefits in realizing the fruit of stream-entry.”

Stream Entry

Stream Entry

The first stage of awakening, where one overcomes the fetters of 1.) personal existence view: view of being someone, that one is an embodied being, 2.) doubt or perplexity regarding suffering, its arising, its ending, and the way of practice leading to the end of suffering, and 3.) adherence to rules and observances as a means of liberation. One who has entered the stream is no longer bound for the lower realms, is fixed in destiny, and is bound for full awakening. The four factors of stream-entry are: 1.) association with persons of integrity, 2.) hearing the true teaching, 3.) wise attention, and 4.) practice in accordance with the Dhamma.

Also known as: entering the stream, fruition of stream-entry
Pāli: sotāpatti, sotāpanna
