The Buddha shares the consequences of causing division within the monastic community.
Saṅghabheda sutta - Splitting Apart Of The Community
This was said by the Blessed One, said by the Arahant, as I have heard:
"Bhikkhus, one thing arises in the world for the harm of many people and for the discomfort of many people. It arises for the misfortune and disadvantage and suffering of both gods and humans. What is this one thing? It is the splitting apart of the community. When the community is divided, there are mutual quarrels, abusing, exclusion, and rejection of one another. In such a situation, those without confidence do not develop confidence, and some of those who have confidence change their minds."
The Blessed One spoke on this matter. In this regard, it is said:
"One who causes the splitting apart of the community is destined for a miserable state, destined for hell, and will remain there for an aeon; Taking pleasure in division, and not living in accordance with the Dhamma, that one falls away from security and peace; Having ruptured the unified community, that one suffers in hell for an aeon."
This matter too was spoken by the Blessed One, as I have heard.
